4 Things You Must Know About Public Transportation in Dubai

All the guides and articles about traveling abroad have a point about transportation. It is usually on the top of the to-do list before leaving for that particular country. They give good advice and you should follow it. A big part of your trip is going to be spent in some kind of transportation to take you from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to sightseeing. While those guides usually don’t give you country-specific recommendations, I will. If you are planning a trip to Dubai and you want to know more about its public transportation then you are going to appreciate these 4 things that you need to know.

You can take the metro from the airport

Having buses or shuttles at the airports is a common practice but metros, not so much. Dubai metro is connected to the airport and if you wish and your hotel is near a metro station, you can take the world’s largest driverless single metro line to your hotel. There is no drinking or eating allowed in the metro and there are separate sections for men and women. The Dubai Metro has just two lines and three are currently being built, so, unfortunately, there are not many places that you can get to via metro.

Unlike the metro, buses have a lot of routes

The comfortable and cool buses of Dubai are ready to get you around the city. Not only can you ride a bus in the city but also between the Emirates. If your budget is tight then buses are your go-to options since they are cheap. It is not like you’re going to suffer in the bus because of their low cost. The Dubai government simply wants to provide good passenger service.

Water taxis are a thing in Dubai

Do you want to surf the Arabian Gulf? Of course, you do and water taxis provide that opportunity for you. The Roads and Transport Authority very recently released this new method of transportation and it has already become the favorite of tourists. RTA intended to decrease the traffic by adding the water taxis. It is soon to tell whether or not they succeeded but you should definitely try it once during your stay.

Taxis are cheap in Dubai

Last but not least, taxis are a good way to reach your destination. They are not as expensive as you may think, they are fast, efficient and let’s not even talk about the comfort. The drivers can speak English and won’t expect a tip from you. One thing to keep in mind, telling only the address of your destination to the driver may not be enough, you might need to give some details about the location, like famous landmarks nearby.
